How do borg designations work

Year This would allow there to be a million other '7 of 9's' but only one that is the Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix I would even suspect that 'Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01' wasn't her full designation, but simply what the Collective allowed her to tell Janeway.

Thanks Jimi, I hadn't actually considered that. I was thinking 'tertiary adjective of unimatrix 01' would have had something to do with designations, but that idea hadn't actually occurred to me. That makes a lot of sense as well. What does it mean if you're a Tertiary or primary, secondary, quarternary What's an adjunct?!

I think if there's any meaning to the designations, it's just the order in which the drones are introduced to the group. The Borg don't have any apparent use for ranks. All drones are equal, but openings within a subgroup can be filled at any time. Meaning, "Seven of Nine" would not have been less important than One through Six, or more important than Eight and Nine.

That just happened to be the order in which those positions became filled. Laser Beam , Jan 21, Checking character bios, I see my authority theory is incorrect. Two of the other three lower number survivors were Primary and Secondary Adjuncts, so should have been able to countermand Seven's instructions.
