For example, at level 1, I have mana. I pop Soul ring, bringing me to mana for 10 seconds. So I should not have even used up the full mana from Soul Ring. But when Soul Ring Wears out, I'm left with mana, instead of still having full mana.
The 25 mana initial cost uses the Soul Ring Buffer, but the 80 Mana to upkeep it for 10 seconds does not and takes from the main mana pool instead. Result: The Mana upkeep ignores the Soul Ring Buffer, and you are left with less then full mana despite not having even used the full mana buffer.

Otherwise how should it be handled fairly? You have the same amount of mana eg. This would be increasingly worse there more int an item has. This way you don't get screwed over by picking up new items, but you can ofc "game" the system by using the above mechanic.
But since this carries a risk an enemy hero picking up or destroying your boots , it's fair. Holger It's not fair, since you don't have to use it around enemies. Plus someone could just run into you and get a stun off and deny your items.
It is a risk, jsut like taking off your Tranquil boots for jungling. Losing the ABoots means taking the Soul Ring instead of the default "urn of shadows".
